Black in Blue

Black in Blue is a painting series by Barbara Pietrasanta exploring the body as a trace of lived experience. Colour becomes shadow, mark becomes memory. Created in oil on canvas and mixed media between 2009 and 2013, these works use black not as absence but as container — absorbing all colours, holding them, revealing them in fragments. The female figure emerges or disappears within dense, layered surfaces, in a continuous dialogue between the visible and the submerged, between identity and dissolution.

Stories of experience through the body. Experiencing is a continuous journey, color becomes shadow, sign becomes trace. But while stealing the words nothing was lost, not even the colors that, after the feast, were kidnapped by the black that now contains them all
