Awakening is a painterly cycle by Barbara Pietrasanta devoted to the female figure in the moment of her emergence: from sleep, from oblivion, from herself. The works, executed in oil on canvas, explore the threshold between interiority and the world, between dissolution and presence.
The cycle was presented in the solo exhibition Risvegli, held at Sala Veratti in Varese from 4 to 26 April 2026, with a critical essay by Francesca Pensa.
A suspended moment that is between the ecstatic nocturnal world and the unexplored occurrence of the day. Snapshots of a “here and now” that you never want to step beyond.
